The Macrobiotic Association of Great Britain was established in 1996 to provide information on macrobiotics to the public, and run educational events. More recently it has set up training standards for the macrobiotic healing arts, to give wider recognition of the value of these in society, to encourage people to train in these healing arts, and to create a high standard of training and practice.

The association has set standards for four distinct healing arts: Macrobiotic Cook & Health Advisor, Macrobiotic Specialist Cook & Healing Guide, Macrobiotic Counsellor, and Macrobiotic Caterer.

A Macrobiotic Cook & Health Advisor can cook delicious healthy food to a high standard for a wide range of clients where a specific healing diet is not required, from individuals or familes, to groups or in restaurants. They may also give cooking classes, and can talk or advise on a wide range of subjects related to health and diet.

A Macrobiotic Specialist Cook & Healing Guide has studied to become a Macrobiotic Cook & Health Advisor and taken additional training to be able to offer cooking and other practical help to people who are ill. They will often be working in co-operation with a Macrobiotic Counsellor who is giving specific dietary advice to a client.

Work may be within a health centre or macrobiotic educational centre, or as an independent complementary health practitioner.

A Macrobiotic Caterer has completed studies to become a Macrobiotic Cook & Health Advisor, and taken additional training in catering for large numbers in commercial or other large kitchens. Macrobiotic Caterers prepare food for a wide range of events including weddings and other celebrations, summer camps, conferences, residential workshops, and can run a café or restaurant.
