Do you want to become a dynamic and inspiring teacher guiding people towards greater health and wellbeing?

Train as a Macrobiotic Educator

Led by Oliver Cowmeadow M.Sc, PGCE, Dip Shi, MC

The International Macrobiotic School is looking for its next generation of teachers

We are now looking to recruit and train several new teachers to join the International Macrobiotic School from 2027 onwards, particularly to teach on our First Year Holistic Nutrition & Cooking course.

Alongside this, we are also inviting people who wish to teach macrobiotics in their own communities, develop their own practice or build their own health business. Whether your goal is to teach with our school, independently, or both, this programme is designed to help you become a confident, skilled and inspiring educator.

Could this be you?

If you feel a deep desire to help create the enormous changes our world needs, and you believe that one of the greatest gifts we can offer is education in health, healing and vibrant living, then you may love teaching macrobiotics.

This training will prepare you to teach holistic macrobiotic nutrition, diagnosis, natural healing, Do-In, cooking and healthy living. You will learn how to communicate this knowledge clearly, confidently and compassionately, whether teaching individuals, groups or professional courses.

Why I am creating this programme

I have devoted my life to teaching the principles and practice of macrobiotics because I believe it is the greatest contribution I can make to the world at a time of increasing physical and mental illness and environmental destruction. My wish is to help support the growing health revolution that is creating a healthier and happier future for us and the planet.

I am initiating this teacher training programme to support others who want to help bring about a healthier world, through high quality education.

Two possible pathways

1. Become a teacher at the International Macrobiotic School

Our priority is to recruit several committed teachers who would like to become part of the school's teaching team. Initially this will focus on the First Year Holistic Nutrition & Cooking course, with opportunities to develop into teaching additional subjects over time.

If this is your goal, you will receive mentoring and practical teaching experience to prepare you for this role.

2. Build your own teaching practice

You may instead wish to teach workshops, cooking classes, Do-In or nutrition courses where you live, creating your own business and sharing macrobiotics with your local community.

Or you may choose to do both—teach with the International Macrobiotic School while also developing your own independent teaching work.

How the training works

The programme has three strands

1. Assisting on courses

The traditional way to learn teaching is by assisting experienced teachers. During the coming year there will be opportunities to assist on our First, Second and Third Year courses.

Through assisting you will learn:

  • How to plan classes
  • Using a variety of teaching methods
  • Voice projection and communication skills
  • Holding groups safely and effectively
  • Supporting students' personal development
  • Giving constructive feedback on homework

The next opportunity is to assist on the First Year course, consisting of six modules over eight months, beginning 21–25 October.

2. Teacher Training Weekends

The school will hold a Teacher Training Weekend on 4–6 December, followed by at least one further weekend during 2027.

These weekends provide concentrated practical training in all the essential teaching skills. Take a look at details of the 2027 course here.

3. Personal tutorials while assisting

While assisting you will receive free individual tutorials immediately after classes or during breaks. Together we will review the teaching that has just taken place, discussing what worked well, what could have worked better, teaching methods used, counselling approaches and group facilitation.

Who can apply?

To join the programme you should:

  • Have a genuine enthusiasm for teaching the knowledge, cooking and lifestyle that macrobiotics offers.
  • Have completed at least one year of study at the International Macrobiotic School or an equivalent programme elsewhere.

Additional requirements for those wishing to teach at the International Macrobiotic School

  • Have completed the full three-year training (or equivalent).
  • Have experience giving holistic nutritional therapy consultations.
  • Preferably be a professional member of the Macrobiotic Association.

  • Lifelong teaching skills in theory, cooking and Do-In.
  • Practical experience teaching alongside experienced educators.
  • Personal mentoring and feedback.
